Engineering Department
ASSISTANT ENGINEER
Wayne Township is seeking an Assistant Township Engineer. Reporting to the Head of the Engineering Division, the employee must have significant organizational skills, ability to review and administer construction projects, review site plan and subdivision applications for the Township Planning Board and Board of Adjustment, and attend Board of Adjustment meetings.
Qualified applicants must have graduated from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; must have a minimum of ten years of experience in Engineering, some of which has been in a supervisory capacity in a governmental agency; any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Qualified applicants must also possess a New Jersey Professional Engineers License; have knowledge of general laws, and New Jersey law in particular, affecting engineering, planning, development, and zoning processes; ability to prepare highly complex technical reports, plans, and specifications; ability to present technical information clearly and concisely to lay groups, municipal officials, and the general public; knowledge of NJDOT’s SAGE and PMRS is a plus; must possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
Starting salary $110,000, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Medical and dental benefits after 30 days of employment. Participation in the NJ State Pension System. Paid Time Off.

Positions Available with Wayne Parks & Recreation
Lifeguard
Lifeguard for James W. Roe Memorial Pool and/or Tom’s Lake at Captain Kilroy Park – Outdoor work, requires current lifeguard certification. (Certification available through Parks and Rec) Lifeguards are expected to work a minimum two shifts per week including weekend shifts. Staff may work up to 40 hours per week. Shifts available 7 days/week, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Must be age 15 or older. If under the age of 18, working papers are required.
Gate Guard
Gate Guard for James W. Roe Memorial Pool and/or Tom’s Lake at Captain Kilroy Park – Outdoor work, includes checking in guests, daily receipts and deposits, other duties as assigned. Gate Guards are expected to work a minimum three shifts per week including weekend shifts. Up to 40 hours per week available, shifts available 7 days/week, Memorial Day through Labor Day. Must be age 15 or older. If under the age of 18, working papers are required.
Pool & Lake Maintenance
Outdoor work including landscaping, park clean-up, building maintenance and handiwork., 40 hours per week maximum. Positions are available mid-May through Labor Day. Must be age 16 or older. If under the age of 18, working papers are required.
Summer Camp Counselors
Summer Camp Counselors Outdoor work at the Wayne Township Community Center. Become a part of the Wayne Rec Camp team! Camp Dates: June 29 – August 21, 2026, staff hours are 8:45 am to 4:45 pm, Monday through Friday. Counselors are expected to work 5 days per week. Must be a minimum 16 years of age by June 30. Working papers are required for staff under 18 years of age.

- Swimming facilities may have varying temperature conditions; swim instructors should be prepared to work in both warm and cool environments, and may need to adjust clothing and hydration accordingly.
- Frequently required to stand, lift, bend, push, pull, walk, talk, hear, sit, and balance.
- Ability to regularly use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms.
- Routinely must lift, move and carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
- Part-time positions often involve working early mornings, mid-day, evenings and weekends. Scheduling flexibility is required.
- Essential Functions
- Provides swim instruction to students enrolled in swim lessons.
- Teaches technique from basic to advanced with the objective of providing students the ability to swim without a flotation device.
- Provide clear and effective communication to prevent swimmers from risky behavior, endangering their own, or the welfare of others.

Supervisor of Pollution Operations – Water Pollution Control Plant.
Wayne Township is seeking a Supervisor of Pollution Operations at its Water Pollution Control Plant. Under the direction of the Division Superintendent, this position is responsible for operation, maintenance, and repair of the Water Pollution Control Facility. Directs day-to-day staff operations, including the Lab Staff, and trains staff on plant operations.
Qualified applicants will possess a State of New Jersey S-4 Operators License (preferred) or have a minimum of an S-3 working toward S-4. High School graduate or equivalent. Previous supervisor experience is preferred.
