Mayor Vergano of Wayne Township is proud to announce the grand opening of the new Wayne for All Ages Resource Center. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in the Clubhouse at Captain Kilroy Park, 6 Concord Place, Wayne.
The Resource Center is part of Wayne Township’s age-friendly initiative. In 2020, the Township joined the AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. As part of the township’s membership in the Network, they agreed to disseminate an AARP survey to residents 45 and older. They were fortunate to receive almost 600 completed surveys. The survey results indicated that many residents were unclear about the services already offered and highlighted service needs desired by the community. Consequently, the Wayne for All Ages Task Force developed various programs and services to address resident concerns, including the Wayne for All Ages Resource Center. The center will open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from October 3 to May 2, 2024.
The Wayne for All Ages Resource Center is a collaborative effort among committed organizations and dedicated volunteers from our community. Grant funds from Chilton Medical Center will help operate the Resource Center, and task force members will share their expertise to facilitate various programs, including Alzheimer’s support groups, FREE legal services for qualifying residents, healthcare navigation services, blood pressure screenings, poetry classes, and Qigong classes, to name a few. Pre-registration is required for all programs and services.
The Wayne Health Department’s Senior and Social Services Director, Rosemary Acampora, oversees the Wayne for All Ages initiative and the task force. Task force members include the Wayne Health Department, Wayne’s Parks and Recreation Department, the Wayne Public Library, Wayne Counseling Center including Women In Transition, Chilton Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Wayne, Christian Health’s Home Care Options, Northeast NJ Legal Services, ShopRite of Wayne, William Paterson University/Nursing Department, and other community stakeholders.
The Mission of Wayne for All Ages is to improve access to services, address concerns identified in our age-friendly survey, and collaborate with community stakeholders to create a more age-friendly Wayne.
The goals of Wayne for All Ages include:
Increase awareness of existing resources and services available to Wayne residents.
Create a resource directory for residents 45 years and older.
Make transportation information and options more accessible to residents.
Provide affordable exercise programs for older adults.
Create a multi-layered approach to providing resources and services to Wayne families living with or caring for family members with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Please join us on Tuesday, October 3, at 10 a.m. at Captain Kilroy Park Clubhouse to learn about Wayne for All Ages and our Resource Center. For more information, contact Rosemary at 973-694-1800 ext. 3281.
